The children's parade in La Peñita
While not the most exciting event on earth, the Independence Day parade by the local schoolchildren marks the start of a holiday which continues with lots of music to entertain the townsfolk as they stroll about eating, drinking and just plain hanging out with family and friends.
Participants await the start of the parade on Avenida Emiliano Zapata in La Peñita de Jaltemba, Nayarit, México

Of course, the parade isn't exclusively for the kids. It gives the local politicians a chance to strut, too.

The fountain on la Avenida. We include this photo because the fountain is so rarely in operation that most visitors don't know it really works.
